Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) Waste Policy

DEA is involved in a number of consultation exercises in relation to waste management. Together with our partners and stakeholders we have recently completed a long consultation process around the Waste Act. The Department is now developing minimum standards and a free basic waste services policy, as well as developing the National Waste Management Strategy. It is also establishing a research network regarding waste issues. The Department views consultation with government departments and stakeholders as being critical to the successful formulation and implementation of these policies.

To make consultation on these policy processes easier for our partners and stakeholders, online consultation processes have been set up. Through the online consultative process, any interested organization, business or individual citizen can contribute towards the formulation of the country's waste management strategy, minimum standards for waste or be part of the Waste Research Network.
