To implement and enforce pollution and waste management policy and legislation in a manner that encourages compliance with pollution and waste management authorisations, directives and agreements in order to protect the people’s right to an environment that is not harmful to health and well-being.
Functions:
• Administer and process all departmental pollution and waste related authorisations.
• Enforce compliance with authorisations and initiate legal proceedings in respect of pollution and waste offences.
• Investigate emergency incidents and possible cases of non-compliance notices, directives, court rulings, ect.

Role:
To ensure that reasonable legislative and other measures are developed, implemented and maintained in such a way as to protect and defend the right of all to air and atmospheric quality that is not harmful to health and well-being.

Functions:
 
 
• Build and maintain appropriate capacity (including: structures; systems; strategies; skills; incentives; and interrelationships) within the chief directorate to facilitate efficient and effective delivery of all chief directorate outputs required to meet the overall performance objective (i.e. role).
• Develop and implement clear, concise and measurable plans to direct all chief directorate work in respect of the efficient and effective delivery of all the chief directorate outputs required to meet the overall performance objective.
• Ensure that all staff have a clear understanding of the chief directorate, and their own personal, role and function and are directed, guided, assisted and supported in such a way that ensures efficient and effective service delivery, productivity, recognition and job satisfaction.
• Ensure that performance against, and efficacy of, implemented business plans is monitored in such a way as to ensure continued improvements in the delivery of air quality management and climate change services.
• Review, revise and/or amend legislation and regulation to meet the overall performance objective.
