Vessel Tours Lillian Nygoyi

Marine and Coastal Management has a fleet of research and compliance vessels. In November, the Department, the department received the first of four state of the art patrol vessels, The Lillian Ngoyi.
In January, the department will receive the Sarah Baartman. By June 2005, Marine and Coastal Management would have received two further patrol vessels, the Ruth First and Victoria Mxenge. MCM has a further four patrol vessels, the Patella , Palagus, Jasus and Eagle Star. The Patella, Palagus and Jasus will be decommisioned during the course of 2005.

Marine and Coastal Management is currently offering members of the public guided tours of the Lilian Ngoyi. A minimum of 5 persons are required for a guided tour through this South African built state of the art patrol vessel. Tours of the Sarah Baartman will commence in mid-January 2005.

Marine and Coastal Management has two research vessels, the Africana and the Sardinops. Both of these vessels are dedicated to marine research and spend more than 200 days at sea each year studying the state of our fish stocks. Research from these vessels help advise how much fish may be allocated for commercial, recreational and subsistence fishing each year.
