State of the Environment

About the CMA
Safety and security
Like other metropolitan areas in South Africa, the CMA is also preoccupied with combating the high rate of crime and securing the safety of its inhabitants and tourists. Recent statistics show an upturn in the incidence of crime.

Violent crime associated with gangsterism and drugs is on the increase, as is theft, robbery and burglary often with aggravating circumstances that lead to serious injury and death. The phenomenon of gang-related conflict and urban terrorism has also become a matter for concern over the past year.

 

Issues
In order to provide a detailed description of the state of the environment, the focus has been to identify and examine specific issues within an overall theme in order to examine the state and pressures on each of these issues more thoroughly.
