See a summary of all Indicators on this website

What responses are we giving to the problem?
The following responses are underway by CMC:
  • The Metropolitan Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) includes a Metropolitan Open Space System (MOSS) strategy to preserve an open space system.
  • The preparation of Catchment Management Plans, which, inter alia, will determine interim MOSS area demarcation and management guidelines.
  • Detailed MOSS studies are being undertaken.
  • The analysis of environmentally significant areas, including ecosystems mapping of the CMA. This will provide the foundation for the finalisation of a detailed MOSS in accordance with the MSDF.
  • Funds are allocated for the acquisition of land for conservation and recreational purposes in the MLCs.
  • A GIS study of all proclaimed areas in the CMA has been completed.
  • A planning database has been initiated to determine where development pressures are occurring in the CMA.

What can you do about it?
Lobby local authorities to maintain and conserve metropolitan open spaces.

Petition against developments that encroach on sensitive environments of the CMA.

Participate in initiatives that contribute to the creation, use and maintenance of metropolitan open spaces.
