Participants take part in an education, training and development programme as part of their work. A curriculum framework, underscored by a Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises course (SMME) has been developed. The training will allow participants to work towards a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC), Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) or a learnership registered with the National Qualifications Framework.

Key Points of the Training Course

  • 1 Day Orientation Programme for each team
  • Curriculum Framework -underscored by a Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) course, has been developed. SMME will provide the organising principle for the entire curriculum. The curriculum framework allows team members to work towards a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC), Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) or a learnership registered on the National Qualifications Framework
  • Placement assessment - each learner will undergo a placement assessment. Learner profiles, including training needs analyses, will also be developed
  • Learning Support Material - An inventory of appropriate available learning support material (LSM) at Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) levels (especially for coastal management) has been undertaken. Quality LSM will be procured for all participants. New LSM is being developed to fill in gaps and a generic induction manual for the social partners and actors involved in the 'Working for the Coast' Programme is also being developed.
  • 6 hours per week learning programme - Education, training and development service providers are recruited to provide a 6 hours per week SMME learning programme to each of the teams
