| The White Paper for Sustainable Coastal Development in South Africa
presents a national policy for managing the country's coastal resources.
The key messages of the white paper are: |
- Recognising the value of the Coast, estimated to contribute
35% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
- Facilitating sustainable coastal development (people-centred
approach versus resource-centred)
- Promoting co-ordinated and integrated coastal management
- Introducing a co-operative style of management
