Using poverty relief funding from the Department of Environmental
Affairs and Tourism, CoastCare provides jobs and training for unemployed
people in coastal communities to create and maintain a cleaner and
safer coastal environment. |
| What will happen 'on the ground'? |
|
- Cleaning of coastal areas on a regular basis of all litter
and to recycle this as appropriate
- Assisting with maintenance of public facilities (ablution blocks,
parking areas, picnic sites, etc.)
- Rehabilitation of coastal ecosystems
- Assisting with access control
- Serving as information and tourist officers
- Patrolling beach and public areas to ensure safety of the general
public and tourists, and to safeguard integrity of facilities
- Identifying sick and injured animals on the beach and reporting
to the implementing agent
