Implementation Conference

The Implementation Conference: Stakeholder Forum for Our Common Future aimed to initiate and strengthen the implementation of sustainable development through the collaborate involvement of stakeholders. The Conference developed "type 2" partnership initiatives to further the implementation of international agreements in four issue areas: energy, freshwater, food security and health.

One of the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit was the setting up of a new global network -- the Regional Government Network. The first meeting of the network took place in Gauteng during the Summit -- on 31 August 2002 -- and agreed the Gauteng Declaration. The second meeting of the Network took place in San Sebastian in the Basque region from 27-31 March 2003, and a third is planned for September 2003 in Australia.
