Coral Reefs Action Atlas

Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE)
GLOBE is a worldwide network of students, teachers and scientists working together to study and understand the global environment. Students and teachers from over 8 500 schools in more than 85 countries are involved in this programme. (South Africa became a full participant in the GLOBE programme at the beginning of 1997). GLOBE students make environmental observations at or near their schools and report their data through the Internet. Rainforest Action Network (RAN)
RAN works to protect the earth’s rain forests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organisation and non-violent direct action. This website contains a series of very informative fact sheets covering various aspects of rain forests including the factors contributing to the destruction of these very important ecosystems. A 65-page educational package, Rainforests Forever, which serves as a curriculum supplement for Grades 3-6 (USA), is also provided. This package focuses on two areas that can directly save the rain forests - a reduction in the use of oil and wood. An inter-disciplinary approach was followed in developing Rainforests Forever, which not only incorporates Natural Science concepts, but also includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Social Studies.
