Preface
One of the functions of the South African Wetlands Conservation Programme is to provide information to those working in or interested in the wetland conservation field. This bibliography is aimed at all scientists, managers and decision-makers who may need background information on wetlands in South Africa. Unpublished theses and non-scientific documents are therefore included. This is the second edition of the bibliography, the first one being released in 1995. The bibliography was originally developed from the references used in the data sheet for those wetlands designated by South Africa to the List of Wetlands of International Importance in terms of the Ramsar Convention. Further references were added by those working at those sites. In order to widen the scope of the bibliography references from a number of other wetlands were included. The bibliography is restricted to work done in South Africa. The intention was to indicate the volume and range of work done on South African wetlands. This document should not be seen as all inclusive. It should be used in conjunction with those reference databases housed at the CCWR, JLB Smith Institute of Ichthology and the CSIR.
