List of wetland-related expertise
in South Africa

About the list
An integral part of the South African Wetlands Conservation Programme is to keep those working or interested in the wetlands conservation field informed of what is happening at the national and international level. In order to facilitate collaboration between those working in the field of wetland conservation and the Department, it was necessary to establish a database on wetland-related expertise in South Africa. This database will be used for future distribution of the SA Wetlands Newsletter and other wetland information of interest and will be maintained and updated by the Department. The list was compiled from datasheets sent out to all SA Wetland Newsletter recipients during May and December 1994, and has since been updated twice. Twenty-eight main categories were gleaned from the 240 completed datasheets in 1994. These include the following: amphibians, birds, conservation, ecology, engineering, environmental education, fish, genetics, geology, hydraulics, hydrology, invasives, invertebrates, legislation, mammals, management, modelling, monitoring, parasites, plants, references, remote sensing and GIS, reptiles, soils, statistics, water quality and wetland restoration.Under each main category, the expert's surname, initials, area of expertise and wetland type is given.
