Subdirectorate: Montreal Protocol
Mission:

To protect the ozone layer by phasing out the use and production of ozone depleting substances in accordance with the requirements of the Montreal Protocol and in line with South Africa's development goals.

Functions:
  • Management of the implementation of the Montreal Protocol in South Africa:
  • International and national liaison.
  • Meaningful stakeholder involvement.
  • Protocol adherence.
  • National monitoring process.
  • Dissemination of information.
  • Protection of South Africa's interest at the meetings of the Montreal Protocol.
  • Initiation and management of projects for the replacement of ozone-depleting substances.
  • Awareness creation.
