Directorate: Climatology

Mission:

The directorate climatology is responsible for rendering a climatological service. It is dedicated to providing good quality data as well as related information and to maintaining the national climatological data archive of South Africa. The directorate has a committment to expand and improve methods of coupling climate information with the socio-economic structure of South Africa so that it may benefit all South Africans.

Functions:

Climatology offers a variety of services which include:

  • Climate databank
  • Climate information service
  • Publication service
  • Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN)

Directorate: Weather Observations and Administration

Functions:

Directorate provides an important weather service by maintaining an extensive Observational Network of rainfall stations and weather stations countrywide and across the South Atlantic, Southern Indian and Antarctic oceans. Administration delivers a valuable support service to all Weather Bureau staff.
