De Hoop photo gallery

De Hoop Vlei is one of a limited number of breeding site in South Africa of the greater flamingo Phoenicopterus ruber. The nesting colonies are to the west and south-west of the vlei, outside the nature reserve, but associated with the floodwaters from the lake. The flamingoes use the vlei as a feeding area, and up to 1473 individuals have been recorded at a time
