Environmental Affairs confirms extension of zero quota for leopard hunting in South Africa

 


The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) can confirm that a zero quota for the hunting of leopard (Panthera pardus) has been extended to 2017. The decision is based on the review of available scientific information on the status and recovery of leopard populations in South Africa.

17 February 2017 - The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi today, 17 February 2017 has on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson led a public awareness drive to commemorate the World Wetlands Day (WWD) under the theme: “Wetlands for disaster risk reduction” at the Esselen Park Wetlands Pan in Tembisa, Gauteng Province.


16 February 2017 - The Green Scorpions from the national Department of Environmental Affairs initiated an investigation at the FG landfill site in Midrand, during February 2016.  This process resulted in a criminal investigation where a number of samples and documents were seized for further consideration.
