The NBBN will host its third Indaba in August 2017 at a suitable venue in South Africa following the success of its first and second inaugural Indaba in 2015 and 2016.

On 21 July 2017, Minister Edna Molewa, published for public comment draft Notices and Regulations for the expansion and re-zonation of the Betty’s Bay, the Robberg and Goukamma Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The due date for submission of the comments is 19 September 2017.

17 August 2017 - The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa has noted with concern the continued misrepresentation by the media and a number of non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) on the processes associated with the domestic trade in rhino horn. The primary claim is that the Republic of South Africa does not have systems in place to ensure that any prospective domestic sale of rhino horn takes place in a strictly regulated manner.


16 August 2017 - Following the recent devastating fires around Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in partnership with the local municipalities, and many other organisations, have come together to collectively implement an environmental rehabilitation intervention.


14 August 2017 - Youth from 18 African countries working in the field of conservation and protection of biodiversity are attending the first Global Youth in Biodiversity Network in Africa workshop in Muldersdrift, Gauteng, to exchange ideas and find possible solutions to preventing biodiversity loss. The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is an international network of youth organizations and individuals from all over the world, established in 2010.


11 August 2017 - The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa, has congratulated members of the Environmental Management Inspectorate, also known as the Green Scorpions, for their assistance in the arrest of an alleged rhino horn smuggler at the OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, 10 August 2017.
