20 November 2018 - The 27th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change was held in New Delhi, India, on 19-20 November 2018. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India and attended by H.E. Mr. Edson Duarte, Minister of the Environment of Brazil, H.E. Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China, Dr Tsakani Ngomane, Deputy Director General for Climate Change, Air Quality and Sustainable Development, Department of Environmental Affairs of South Arica.


18 November 2018 - BirdLife South Africa is excited to announce that Candice Stevens, BirdLife South Africa’s Policy & Advocacy Programme Manager, and the South African Government (represented by the Department of Environmental Affairs) have been awarded the Pathfinder Award Special Commendation for their innovative work on biodiversity tax incentives.

16 November 2018 - Excellences’, Honourable delegates, ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to be addressing you on this very important subject, Plant Conservation for human well-being and nature. As you are aware, our conservation efforts have long been focussed on the protection of natural resources to the extent that we have excluded people and their well-being.


15 November 2018 - Financing for biodiversity has been identified as a key limitation to the attainment of the global biodiversity targets. The scientific assessments that have been undertaken all point to the fact that insufficient resources are available for financing the many challenges that confront biodiversity conservation. South Africa has therefore taken an approach that finding sustainable, tangible financial resources for biodiversity is an integral part of any strategic plan for biodiversity.
