Minister Molewa has published draft Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) for Cape Mountain Zebra (CMZ) for public comment. The BMP provides a new approach, following adoption of South Africa’s proposal brough forward at recent CITES CoP17 in Johannesburg. Members of public are invited to comment within 30 days of publication of gazette.

The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) can confirm that a zero quota for the hunting of leopard (Panthera pardus) has been extended to 2017. The decision is based on the review of available scientific information on the status and recovery of leopard populations in South Africa.

The Tsitsikamma National Park Marine Protected Area Declaration Notice was published in GN 1578 in Government Gazette 40510 while the regulations were published in GN R. 1579 in Government Gazette 40511 on Monday, 19 December 2016. The publications were made in terms of section 22A of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003.
