Invitation to contribute to the vision of state of environment reporting in the information age
South Africa’s Environmental Management Policy and law requires the department to report periodically on the state of the South African environment. Although the department has been meeting this requirement through the publication of various reports over the years, much has happened in the field of information provision since the publication of the policy in 1997. Indeed, over the last 20 years the radical advances in information technology and use provide opportunities for radical advances in environmental information provision.
In order to initiate the co-creation of a new national state of environment reporting system that takes full advantage of the opportunities presented by this new information age, the department is hosting a one and a half day brainstorming session to define an overall vision for the system. The session hopes to inspire all participants with presentations on what is possible, provide a platform to unpack what is needed, and then use this energy and insight to describe a new way of going beyond the policy requirements.
As a key role player in South Africa’s state of environment information production, dissemination and/or use, we would sincerely appreciate your active involvement in what we hope will be an exciting, stimulating and ultimately productive event.
