Minister Barbara Creecy to participate in the annual Nelson Mandela Day commemoration in Ermelo, Mpumalanga

18 July 2019

The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy and the Mpumalanga MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs Mr Vusumuzi Shongwe will participate in the annual International Mandela Day activities on Sunday 21 July 2019 in Sheepmoor community outside Ermelo, Mpumalanga.

The activities will include painting of the classrooms and refurbishment of a kitchen at the BEE Maseko Secondary School and Thwahlele Primary School. In line with the five key focus areas for global partnerships on areas of education and literacy; food and nutrition; shelter; sanitation and active citizenship, the Minister and the MEC will hand over school desks made out of debris from removed alien invasive plants. They will also participate in a sod turning ceremony for construction of ablution facilities at both schools.

Every year on 18 July South Africans together with the international community honour our former president and international icon Nelson Mandela in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. This day has since its launch in 2009 inspired individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.
