Department of Environmental Affairs mourns the passing of staff member
14 August 2018
The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa, has expressed condolences to the family of long-serving Departmental administrative staff member Ms Stola Christina Mamabolo. Ms Mamabolo (60) passed away on 12 August 2018 after a long illness.
Minister Molewa said Ms Mamobolo's passing during Women's Month brought into focus the contribution of Mme Stola and many other women like her towards the liberation struggle; as well as for the struggle for women's rights.
"Mme Stola wasn't only a dedicated civil servant; she also actively participated in the struggle for liberation. She was a caring and passionate community leader in her community at Atteridgeville. Some of her many previous roles include working as a ward councillor and a caregiver particularly to children and the elderly,” Minister Molewa said.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson said “we have lost a valuable member of our staff. Her passing leaves a genuine void."
Director-General Ms Nosipho Ngcaba has also paid tribute to the late Ms Mamobolo; saying: “we will always remember her for her commitment to her work and for often playing the role of peacemaker in the Ministry office."
The Department will communicate funeral details after engagements with the family.
