Acting Minister Mr Derek Hanekom to address the launch of the African Youth Waste Network by the Sustainable Seas Trust in Port Elizabeth

26 October 2018

The Acting Minister of Environmental Affairs Mr Derek Hanekom will address the official launch of the African Youth Waste Network by the Sustainable Seas Trust supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth on Monday 29 October 2018.

The launch of the African Youth Waste Network will be preceded by the tabling of a report on advances in Combatting Marine Waste in Africa and discussions on achieving Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa by 2035.

As the world recognises the impact of plastic pollution on the environment and the oceans, an initiative such as the African Youth Waste Network will not only enhance youth participation in waste management, but also enhance South Africa’s efforts in combatting marine waste.
