DEA to host Marine and Coastal Enforcement Workshop

The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) will host a two-day Marine and Coastal Enforcement workshop in Port St Johns, Eastern Cape, from 3rd to 4th September 2015.
The purpose of the workshop is to equip stakeholders on the effective enforcement of the Integrated Coastal Management Act in South Africa. The workshop is also a platform to build capacity for institutions that are legally mandated to implement the regulations in accordance to the precepts of the ICM Act.
During a joint enforcement operation with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the South African Police Service and coastal provinces, the DEA established that there is a need for a capacity building workshop as some of the regulatory institutions were still using old regulations in dealing with coastal transgressions.
