Minister Edna Molewa to host Climate Change Breakfast Session

28 October 2015

The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa, will host an interactive multi-stakeholder breakfast engagement in preparation for South Africa’s participation in the 21st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris.

The international climate change talks, to be held from 30 November to 11 December 2015, is expected to be the culmination of a four-year negotiation process that was initiated in Durban at CoP17 in 2011.  All Parties to the UN Climate Convention are expected to adopt either a protocol, legal instrument or agreed outcome with legal force in order to conclude the Durban Mandate.  The agreement will be applicable to all Parties, and will come into effect from 2020.

South Africa submitted the country’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the UNFCCC by the 1 October deadline.

By presenting the country’s INDC, South Africa has clearly demonstrated the country’s political commitment to limiting warming and, in turn, to limiting future risks posed by higher temperatures.

Media are invited to attend.

Please indicate attendance by 10 am on 30 October 2015.
