Minister Edna Molewa hosts the inaugural women leading towards environmental excellence breakfast dialogue in Pretoria
22 August 2018
The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa will host a dialogue session with women in an effort to build and develop advocacy, leadership and excellence amongst women in the environmental sector. The dialogue, will take place over breakfast at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria on Friday, 24 August 2018.
The dialogue seeks to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the women in South Africa’s environmental sector. It provides a platform for discussion of matters pertinent to the sector, with a clear intention of fostering partnerships through continuous engagements between government, non-governmental organisations, and the business sector.
Minister Molewa acknowledges that there is an urgent need to advance representation of women in the environment fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and other natural science sectors. It is for this reason that the dialogue will also promote the involvement of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas.
Each year, the South African government, business and civil society not only commemorate the 1956 Women’s March, but utilise the month of August to highlight the continued economic and social struggles experienced by women. The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) envisages the dialogue to be a platform for networking and mentorship opportunity amongst emerging and established women leaders in the environment sector.
