Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and fisheries to lead clean-up campaign at Ipelegeng Township

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Maggie Sotyu, together with North West Province’s MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, Ms Kenetswe Mosenogi will lead a clean-up campaign to be held at Ipelegeng Township, Schweizer-Reneke, on Friday, 13 December 2019.
The coordinated clean-up campaign will be held under the auspices of the Good Green Deeds programme, The programme was recently launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa with an objective of mobilising all sectors of South Africa to become more environmentally conscious, while it also seeks to promote behavioural change towards littering, illegal dumping and waste in general.
Since the launch of the programme, tons of waste have been collected in different communities in efforts to improve health and wellbeing of South Africans as well as the very appearance of our country by eradicating illegal dumping, littering and unsustainable waste management practices.
Mamusa Local Municipality has had challenges of illegal dumping of waste, which continues to pose health risks to the community. The Minister and the MEC will be joined by the Executive Mayor of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, Ms Boitumelo Lesego Mahlangu.
The week kicked off with clean- ups, education and awareness campaigns and various activities from 09 December – 13th of December in Glaudina, Amalia, Motoro, Sharon ext 6,7,8,9, Slovo and Ipelegeng.
