Deputy Minister of Environment, Forest and Forestry warns against fake Facebook account

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Makhotso Maggie Sotyu has warned social media users not to fall for any requests for assistance, financial and otherwise, solicited through several fake Facebook accounts using her name.

The Deputy Minister has called on the social media users not to be misled by the individuals impersonating her on social media.  

Deputy Minister Sotyu has confirmed that she has a Facebook account on which she publishes some of the work she does as a public representative. “ll requests solicited through Facebook and possibly other social media platforms in my name are nothing but fake and misleading,” said Ms Sotyu.

“I urge all South Africans and our stakeholders to be vigilant against fraudulent scams,” she said adding Facebook has been asked to deactivate and remove the fake accounts. The matter is being investigated.
