Deputy Minister Ms Barbara Thomson hosts 9th Women in Environment Conference in Mpumalanga

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson, will address the 9th annual Women in Environment Conference set to take place from 23 to 24 August 2018 in White River, Mpumalanga.

The conference brings together women in the environment sector from across South African to deliberate on issues and initiatives that will enhance their role in the environmental conservation, while creating economic and social opportunities.

The ultimate objective of the conference is to, amongst others, mainstream women into the sector and bridge the gender gap. It also provides a platform for discussions on the impacts of climate change, transfer knowledge on environmental issues, participate in developing strategies.

As the environment sector thought-leader, the Department of Environmental Affairs is committed to uphold principles of gender equality in its employment practices, policies, programmes and service delivery. The sector has further committed to take initiatives that aim at addressing the imbalances of the past and gender inequality regardless of race, religion and disability.
