COVID19 alert level 3 for application for environmental authorisations
On 05 June 2020, the Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries issued the Disaster Management Act (Act no. 57 of 2002): Directions for alert level 3 regarding measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 relating to national environmental management permits and licences in Government Gazette 43412 Govenment Notice 650.
The purpose of these directions is to curtail the threat posed by the COVID -19 pandemic and to alleviate, contain and minimise the effects of the national state of disaster, and in particular to provide directions to ensure fair licensing processes and public participation processes as required by the laws contemplated in paragraphs 5 to 8 of these directions.
Pertaining to the above, this communication serves to inform the public that, as of the 05 June 2020, the Environmental Impact Assessment component within the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries will not be receiving hard copy documents for processing. As such, as per the directions issued by the Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, dated 05 June 2020, please follow the process for submitting files to the CD:IEA_062020 files for further guidance as stipulated in said directions to submit applications to the department.
